Imagine you’re walking down a path on a rainy day, deep in thought, when suddenly you spot the tiniest kitten in front of you. It is so small you can hardly call it a kitten, but it is soaking wet, abandoned and helpless.
This actually happened to a woman in Auckland, New Zealand, three years ago. She saw an unprotected grey baby cat at the side of the road, exposed to the elements and all alone. She picked up the little fellow and took him home.
Having checked that he didn’t belong to any of the neighbors, the woman, Kathryn van Beek, decided to nurse it back to health. The weakling was barely one day old, an the umbilical cord was still attached to it!
His new owners, and a big sister cat, took turns taking care of the kitten. They wrapped him in blankets, fed him with a tiny bottle and taught him how to go to the bathroom. He also got his name – Bruce.
The newborn kitty slowly but steadily grew up into a beautiful animal. The transformation from an itsy-bitsy kitten to a stunning black cat was documented by his owners. Bruce changed the color of his eyes and fur, and his fans were able to follow it on social media.
Now Bruce has accounts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube… and his blog was awarded “Top 100 Cat Blog” last year. All this got Bruce the attention of the Internet and his story made many headlines.
This loving, cuddly cat even inspired his owner to write a book about him and how she found him, called “Bruce Finds a Home”. He certainly found a home in our hearts!
