Many celebrities choose them to be their pets. Many are celebrities themselves – like Maru and Maccha Cat, who have an army of followers on the Internet. They are the favorite breed of many a cat lover because when it comes to cuteness, they are hard to beat. Meet the Scottish Fold cats.
The breed got its name after its most striking feature, the small folded-over ears that leave no one feeling indifferent. It is actually the cartilage in their adorable tiny ears that is affected by a gene mutation.
However, they are born with pointy ears, and the trait does not become prominent until the kitties are about a month old or it never actually manifests. It doesn’t matter, they are still irresistible.
Every Scottish Fold kitten has the same ancestor. It all began in the middle of the previous century with a white kitty Susie, who had these adorable folded ears, a trait that she passed onto her own kittens later on. They were also called differently then – “Lops”, because they were lop-eared.
Still, it’s not just their quirky ears that we love so much. Another unique trait is their round face, which coupled with their soft fur and big, round, curious eyes, makes the whole world give a collective “awwwww…!”
They also have a really funny way of “sitting”. It is known in the cat lovers’ circle as the “Buddha” position and it’s so adorable to see. Another funny thing they do: standing up on their hind legs. Just look at Moby here: he thinks he’s human!
Moby is still a kitten – which might explain why you feel mesmerized by him – he is only four months old! He is still in that adorable phase when the whole world is one giant playground and all he does is explore and play.
Moby is a Golden Tabby Scottish Fold baby-boy who lives in Lithuania. Already he’s got over ten thousand followers on Instagram. And who can resist his big eyes, full of wonder, his soft paws, his love of Caturdays and his fuzzy whiskers? We certainly can’t…
